9-day Guatemaya tour
Day 1: San Juan Comalapa & Iximché
You will visit the town of San Juan Comalapa; home to famous artists and painters who are recognized worldwide for representing their lifestyle and traditions. Then, you will visit the ruins of Iximché, the ancient capital of the Kaqchiquel people, one of the 25 ethnic groups that inhabit Guatemala.
Day 2: Chichicastenango tour
One of the richest and most diverse regions of Guatemala visited for its natural wealth and ancestral customs. You will get to know the ruins of Gumarcaaj, the former capital of the Quichés, a pleasure to appreciate and learn about the Maya culture.
Day 3: Ixil Region
You will visit Nebaj, Chajul, and Cotzal, towns that were severely affected during the 33 years of civil war in Guatemala. A great opportunity to immerse yourself in the charms of the local lifestyle, visiting local houses, markets, and cultural centers.
Day 4: Huehuetenango tour
You will take an impressive tour crossing the Sierra de Los Cuchumatanes, the highest mountain ranges in Central America. You will stop along the way to appreciate the breathtaking views of the mountains. Then, you will share with a local family a cultural tour of the Mam region of Todos Santos Cuchumatán.
Day 5: Quetzaltenango tour
You will visit the ruins of Zaculeu, the capital of the Mam culture. Then, you will stop by the town of San Francisco el Alto, famous for its animal market. Later, you will visit the picturesque church of San Andrés Xecul that keeps a link with the Maya ancestors, and Salcajá that holds a jewel, the first church built in Central America.
Day 6: Chicabal Volcano & Almolonga
You will hike Chicabal volcano, in its crater lies an emerald green lagoon that is considered sacred to the Maya Mam culture. Then, you will visit fruit and vegetable plantations in Almolonga and Zunil to observe the great importance of agriculture in the region. You will experience the rural area of Quetzaltenango in a unique way.
Day 7: Lake Atitlan tour
You will explore Lake Atitlán, surrounded by mountains and volcanoes sacred for the Maya Kaqchiquel and T’zutujil cultures. In Santiago Atitlán you will learn about religious syncretism, when visiting Maximón, an ancient deity. Then, you will take a tour of San Juan La Laguna; visiting art galleries, and participating in a Maya ceremony.
Day 8: Antigua Guatemala
You will explore the Maya towns located around La Antigua to learn about their incredible culture, history, and traditions. Then, you will walk through the most charming places of the city accompanied by a local guide.
Day 9: Tikal & Uaxactún
Tikal is the most important city of the Classic Maya period (200 to 900 AD) and the largest excavated site in America. Afterward, you will enter 25km into the jungle to an old gum camp, which houses the remains of the Maya city of Uaxactún, where you will see an old astronomical observatory.
You will discover extraordinary places that will surely surprise you.
