Iximche
The ancient capital of the Maya Kaqchikel, one of the great kingdoms that once thrived in Guatemala.

You will explore the remnants of palaces, plazas, and Maya ball courts while learning about the conquest of Central America. Iximché served as a major political and military center until the Spanish conquest in 1524.

The site is just 30 minutes from the main road to Lake Atitlán or Chichicastenango and only an hour from Antigua. The surrounding region boasts vast agricultural plantations, scenic ecological parks, and delightful Guatemalan cuisine.

Iximché is a sacred site for the Maya, where it is common to see spiritual guides performing ancient ceremonies. You will also visit the charming town of Tecpán, the birthplace of the name “Guatemala,” where you can explore the local market and its historic 16th-century church.
