Iximche

The ancient capital of the Maya Kaqchikel, one of the great kingdoms that once thrived in Guatemala.

You will explore the remnants of palaces, plazas, and Maya ball courts while learning about the conquest of Central America. Iximché served as a major political and military center until the Spanish conquest in 1524.

The region boasts vast agricultural plantations, ecological parks, and delightful Guatemalan cuisine. It is located one hour from Antigua and just 30 minutes off the main route to Lake Atitlán and Chichicastenango.

Iximché is a sacred site where it’s common to see spiritual guides performing Mayan ceremonies. You will also visit the town of Tecpán, the birthplace of the name “Guatemala,” to explore the local market and its historic 16th-century church.
